State Nanny

The British Home Secretary and Blair ally, David Blunkett, resigned today because of the scandal surrounding his former lover's nanny, with accusations that he helped her rush through her visa application (http://politics.guardian.co.uk/homeaffairs/story/0,11026,1374464,00.html). Honestly, next to some of the things that the British government is responsible for, a bit of light corruption is nothing. Why are politicians disgraced for minor embarassments, rather than for starting wars or ignoring starvation and genocide?
Also, you might have noticed that I don't do links. This is not just because I don't know how, I also don't want to start relying too heavily on other sources for my own analyses, as this space is more for commentary than for breaking news.

I didn't know until the resignation that Blunkett is blind. That's pretty cool! I read that he listens to tape recorded briefs played back at double speed in high squeaky voices.

I like that!

But his policies were terrible, especially on imprisoning suspected foreign terrorists without charges and indefinitely.
